Removing the old roof
The existing tiles or slate are carefully stripped back to the roof timbers, along with the old underlay or membrane and any damaged battens. This stage also reveals the condition of the roof structure underneath, which sometimes uncovers issues that weren't visible before work started.
Replacing battens and breathable membranes
Once the roof is stripped back, a new breathable membrane is fitted — this is what actually keeps water out while allowing the roof structure to breathe and avoid condensation problems. New battens are then fixed on top, providing the fixing point for the new tiles or slates.
Installing new tiles or slates
The new roof covering is installed in line with manufacturer guidance and current building standards, working methodically across the roof to ensure consistent alignment, overlap and weatherproofing at every junction, valley and edge.
Final inspections and quality checks
Once installed, the completed roof is checked for correct alignment, secure fixing, and properly finished detailing at chimneys, valleys and edges before the job is signed off. Any scaffolding and site debris is cleared as part of the finish.
